More than two dozen firefighters from South America are in northern Nevada this week. They’re getting some advanced training from local firefighters as part of a partnership with Truckee Meadows Community College and a company called Free Spirit USA.
Department leaders from Chile have been training at Carson City’s regional fire training center all week long.
“They’re doing everything from fire command to fire control, a little wildfire command and there’s going to be a whole day of auto extraction using the tools and techniques we use here,” said Darryl Cleveland, Director of Public Safety for TMCC.
In Chile, all the firefighters are volunteers, so this kind of training is crucial for leaders to take back to their departments.
